Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan Salmon Report 6/23/2014

Scattered fishing in Milwaukee!
Catch the buzz from the cleaning station and get full detailed fishing info. To get my fish reports and how to videos first go to http://www.jimhirt.com By subscribing you will keep ahead of the other anglers. When I post you will get it fast by e-mail!
How Coho
The foggy days continued this week. This has kept many anglers off the lake. When we can get out we caught Coho in the top 25 feet on 6-inch flashers or OO dodgers with Howie peanut, flies tied 14-16 inches long. The Coho are not all that picky on color most green or blue Howie flies will work. It’s a mixed bag for most anglers. Our best presentation is Side Divers or 2,3,4, and 6 color lead core.
How Chinook
Chinook are coming on Vulcan Silver spoons run long behind the downrigger ball or on SWR rigs 40 feet to the bottom. Reaper Magnum and Vulcan Magnum spoons in blue/green or silver/ green on the long lead cores are also taking Chinooks and Lake Trout 8 to 15 pounds. The only place you will find Reaper and Vulcan spoons is on their web site at http://www.badgertackle.com
Where!
Water temperatures near shore warmed to 55 degrees on the surface and Coho fishing was good in 50 to 60 feet of water. Start your trip in close to shore for Coho and go to 80-150 feet of water for Chins and Lake Trout. Fish the entire water column for the best action. Anglers are finding Chinook action north of Milwaukee in Whitefish Bay. Our best speed was 1.7 to 2.0 mph measured at the ball with the Depth Raider.
Have a great fishing season. Let’s go fishing! Note All alone we put together groups at $125 per person. Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Chinook fishing improving in Milwaukee!
Some nice Kings along with great Coho Salmon fishing. To get my fish reports and how to videos first go to http://www.jimhirt.com By subscribing you will keep ahead of the other anglers. When I post you will get it fast by e-mail!
How
Early or late bite has been very productive fishing. Calm seas the last several days has made it a little more difficult to get the fish to bite all day. Most of the Coho are in the top 35 feet on 6-inch flashers or OO dodgers with Howie peanut, flies tied 13 inches long. The Coho are not all that picky on color most green or blue Howie flies will work. The majority of the fish are Coho on most trips. Reaper Magnum and Vulcan Magnum spoons in blue/green or silver/ green on the leadcores are taking Chinooks and Lake Trout 8 to 15 pounds. Leadcore in 4,5,6, and eight colors are the best for kings. The only place you will find Reaper and Vulcan spoons is on their web site at http://www.badgertackle.com The warmer days has brought the temperatures near shore up to 61 degrees on the surface and that action in has slowed. Start your trip in 50 feet of water and fish out to deeper water. Look for 52-degree surface water and fish the top 30 feet for the best action. Our best presentations are Yellow Bird planer boards with 25 foot leads behind the boards. Slide Divers are also producing set to #1 with 35 feet of line out. Our best speed was 1.7 to 2.0 mph.
Where!
Fish have moved out as the water temperature has went up to 61 on the surface near shore. Action seems to be better as you move south of the green can or about 2.5 miles south of Milwaukee. Have a great fishing season. Let’s go fishing! Note All alone we put together groups at $125 per person. Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. The unsettled weather with storms and rain has not effected the fishing. With two foot or less waves presentation has been easy making for very productive fishing. With fourteen rods out the action is steady. Most of the fish are in the top 45 feet on 6-inch flashers or OO dodgers with peanut, small hair cut or Mylar flies tied 12 inches long. The Coho are not all that picky on color most green or blue Howie flies will work. The majority of the fish are Coho on most trips. Reaper Magnum and Vulcan Magnum spoons in blue/green or silver/ green on the downriggers are taking Chinooks and Lake Trout 8 to 15 pounds 35 to 45 down fifty feet behind the ball. The only place you will find Reaper and Vulcan spoons is on their web site at http://www.badgertackle.com The wind has brought the temperatures near shore is up to 61 degrees on the surface and that action in has slowed. Start your trip in 50 feet of water and fish out to deeper water. Look for 52-degree surface water and fish the top 20 feet for the best action. Coho provide most of the action in Milwaukee!
Time to get a cooler of fine tasting Coho Salmon. To get my fish reports and how to videos first go to http://www.jimhirt.com By subscribing you will keep ahead of the other anglers. When I post you will get it fast!

How
Coho are coming on small size spoons and crank baits. Reapers and Vulcans made by http://www.badgertackle.com have been working for us. The small silver Vulcan has been hot on the lead cores. Six inch flashers or dodgers with green or blue Howie peanut flies must be part of your presentation for Coho. A hot presentation for us was a size O orange dodger with a 15.5 inch lead to a medium size blue fly. Coho are in the top 25 feet. Steady action on Slide Divers set to #3 no ring and 25 feet of line out. Run all boards with 3/8 ounce keel sinkers. Our fish have been very high in the water column. Speed is very critical with the 48 degree water. I use the Depth Raider to measure speed at the ball. For spoons use the regular size Silver Vulcan. No Chinook yet as we are targeting Coho. The boat speed of 1.9 to 2.2 has been best. Tie your flies 14.5 to 16 inches on 6 inch dodgers, 18 inches for 6 inch flashers. All orange dodgers and flashers. I hope this helps.

Where!
Fish are in close to the break wall and shore line. It can be a crazy in close with all the traffic and it may be better to fish the shore line south of Milwaukee. Have a great fishing season. Let’s go fishing! Note All alone we put together groups at $125 per person. Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Big Numbers on Chinooks, Don’t put the boat away !! West wind has cranked up the fishing for all species. It is some of the best fishing we had all year. One week left in my season if you have time to get out. Let me explain where and why. To get my fish reports and how to videos first go to http://www.jimhirt.com By subscribing you will keep ahead of the other anglers. When I post you will get it fast!

How Chinooks
Harbor fishing has been best at first light or low light with glow magnum Reaper spoons, J-plugs and crank baits. Jiggers and shore anglers are having some success with spawn and jigs. I have also had some fish on white flashers with aqua Howie flies.
On the 6th we had a great trip in 70 to 115 feet of water. All Chins 2 and 3 year olds 20 to 60 down. Magnum Reaper Fish n Chip did well on 2,4,5 or 6 color lead core. I use the Depth Raider to measure speed at the ball. The boat speed of 1.9 to 2.0 has been best.

Where!

Watch your temperature and fish in 55 or less degrees of water. Fish are marking from 65 feet and all the way out north or south of Milwaukee to 120 feet. Have a great fishing season. Let’s go fishing!

Harbor fishing has been best at first light or low light with glow magnum Reaper spoons, J-plugs and crank baits. Jiggers and shore anglers are having some success with spawn and jigs. I have also had some fish on white flashers with aqua Howie flies.
On the 20th we had a great trip in 70 to 85 feet of water. All Chins 2,3 and four year olds 30 to 60 down. Magnum Reaper Fish n Chip did well on a 5 or 6 color lead core. Next day was also good but the fish were smaller with no four year olds. I use the Depth Raider to measure speed at the ball. The boat speed of 1.9 to 2.0 has been best.

How Lakers
For Lake Trout magnum Reaper glow spoons presented within inches of the bottom will bring in some hogs with the most running 8-10 pounds. A size 0 dodger and Spin N Glow may be needed on some days. No Lakers the last two days.
